Creative Baby Shower Cakes

Creative baby shower cakes are an excellent way to fit your dessert into your shower theme or to be strictly a beautiful addition to the buffet.

If you have organized a theme, you probably have a better idea as to what kind of cake you’d like to make. There is a wide selection of cake pans that could be used for creative baby shower cakes and shouldn’t require too much fiddling or reshaping.

A few theme examples are rubber ducky, Winnie-the-Pooh, stars and moons, teddy bear picnic and Noah’s Ark. All of these would only need shaped cake pans and your creative flair for decoration.

For all of these examples, you could also use a basic round or rectangular cake and either cut the cake to the desired shape using a paper pattern or you could add the shapes to the top of the cake.

For example, put cake shaped pieces of a duck, stars and moons, or animals on the top of the cake and you will have a great creative baby shower cake. Using a cookie cutter or paper patter will make it easy to make these shapes.

A creative way to have your shower cake fit your theme is to use icing to depict your images. A fun idea for a nursery rhyme theme would be to use colored icing to create a Humpty Dumpty image on the cake. Ice out a brick wall on the bottom of a square cake and add Humpty Dumpty to the top of it.

Fondant icing is a firm icing, which can be easily cut into shapes and added to any cake to make a very creative baby shower cake. You could use it for anything from stars and moons to fish and palm trees. It is only limited by your imagination. For the best effect, put them on a cake cover with fondant icing. This isn’t necessary, but it does look pretty good as you can see in the picture below.
